This week's question feature is
Stalked! Twin Spin

What’s your favorite Thanksgiving Day food? If you’re not American or Canadian, what is your favorite holiday food?

My Answer: well I am English so we don't celebrate Thanksgiving, although I love the idea behind it. :)

I don't really tend to eat any differently at the holidays, no special meals or anything. Even at Christmas I don't eat any more or anything differently from normal, I never really get why people go to supermarkets and buy so much food, I always wonder what they do with it all.

So to be honest I don't really have an answer to this, I do like Cranberry sauce though which I only tend to have if I go out for a meal around this time of year, so can I count that as my answer?

Happy hopping and Blogging!

Excerpt

“Have you ever
been swimming here?” I asked moving my head to watch his reaction as I brought
my feet up out of the water and folded them beside me.
“Yeah, most
summers when I came here. We all used to use it as a way to cool off or just
have some fun in between training.”
“How about
skinny dipping?” I asked my grin growing due to the thoughts running through my
head.
“Why? You want
to try it?” he challenged.
“Only if you go
first,” I laughed but stopped instantly when he removed his shirt and tossed it
behind us. My eyes widened in surprise and I started to regret my words.
“You’re not being serious are you?” I stuttered as he pulled off his shoes,
throwing them over to where his shirt was crumpled.
“You can’t chicken
out now Rea. It was your idea,” he said smiling as he removed each sock,
teasing me as they ended up with the rest of his discarded garments.
I just stared at
him, my lips moving but not making a sound as I tried to find an excuse.
He laughed at
me. “Relax Rea, I’m just teasing you. Well unless you’ve changed your mind. In
that case I’m being deadly serious.” He had a cheeky grin on his face as he
spoke and I pushed him hard, toppling him into the water below.
There was a lot
of splashing but Kai surfaced finally, taking a deep breath as he flicked the
hair out of his eyes. I was clutching my stomach in fits of laughter as I bent
over. The shock on his face was priceless.
“Oh you are so
dead Rea, so, so dead,” he said, his voice ragged as the cold water and shock
affected his half naked body. I just continued to laugh as he floated in front
of me, his head bobbing up and down in a comical way.

“I loved how the author took a different approach to writing a love story in modern times with the paranormal element present. I thought it was absolutely wonderful and refreshing. Marvelous!” Kathy H (Amazon Reviewer)

“In the end I had fallen in love with this story…completely untraditional it was a very original idea, not to mention modern. This story had such a good plot and the story structure was sound.” Kacii – The Kooky Bookworm (Book Blogger)

About the Author

Mia Hoddell lives in the UK with her family and two cats. She spends most of her time writing or reading and loves anything paranormal. Mia always had a love of writing but never reading. She was more interested in sports and hated sitting still - despite getting three poems published before the age of sixteen. Finally though, she found some novels that captured her interest and developed a love of reading which is now one of her favourite hobbies.

Mia began with poems before moving on to short stories. Although she enjoyed this, Mia found she had too much to tell with too little space, so later on she created her first series 'The Wanderer Trilogy' and from there other ideas have emerged. With a total of nine books planned at this moment, she is busy working on her second series 'Elemental Killers' before moving onto the next idea on her ever growing list.

Book Review - Allegiant

Title: Allegiant
Author: Veronica Roth
Series: Divergent (book 3)
Publisher: Harper Collins Children's Books
Release Date: 22 Oct 2013
ISBN-13: 978-0007524273

Synopsis
The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

My Review
I am a massive fan of this series and have been counting down until I could read this one. I then got sent a copy by the publishers (thank you soooo much Harper Collins!!!) As I've been doing NaNoWriMo this month I have had hardly any time to read and so this has been ongoing for 2 weeks, and it's been so hard. I have wanted to do nothing but sit and read this book but I had to keep stepping away. But now I have done it, I've finished, and I have been left a broken shell of a human. My heart has been ripped out, stomped on and put back in again.
I did see some spoilers online, no matter how much I tried to avoid them they were there, I didn't even open any webpage that said it was to do with Divergent, but some people's post titles were full of spoilers and you can't miss those on the blogger dashboard. So I read this sitting on the edge of my seat, constantly waiting for something to happen, dreading it all the time and wondering exactly how it would happen and who it would affect. (I hope I am being vague enough that I don't ruin it for anyone else.)
I actually made time to re-read Divergent and Insurgent before I picked this one up, in fact I read both of them in one weekend, i luckily got them in before November started. Which meant that going into this book the rest of the events and people were fresh in my mind. I find I enjoy books so much more when I have a full idea of everything that's going on.
This book is told from 2 perspectives: Tris and Tobias (Four), I was quite excited to read from Tobias' point of view as he has been one of my favourite characters in this series and I wasn't disappointed overall. He is definitely not the same character we started out with, he has grown, changed, developed. At some points he seemed a little weaker, I was used to the strong, self-certain Four that we meet in book 1, but I got used to his softer side and started to appreciate his weaknesses and insecurities just as Tris did.
Tris has also changed, she has gone from uncertain transfer, to reckless dauntless girl willing to run head-first into any situation, to a real mature young lady, who still just wants to do the right thing but lets others in to help her too.
We still have a host of other characters that we have come to know throughout the series, Christina, Cara, Caleb, Peter and more, but then we have a host of new faces from beyond the fence, beyond the control of the Factions, Factionless and it's uprisings. And I enjoyed discovering this new area with Tris and her friends.
The writing in this book was just as beautiful as the previous two. Roth has a way with words that makes you feel like you are being swept up into the story and taken on a journey. I felt like I was part of the action, I felt Tris' emotions and pain, I wanted to rally at her side and hug her when things didn't work out.
I also love the way she presents Tris and Tobias' relationship, there is none of the 'insta-love', or obsession or whiney teens, they argue, they talk, they lose control, they make mistakes, they become friends, they are not perfect. But it feels real, it feels natural, it shows you that no relationship is perfect, but if you put the effort in, it can work.
I absolutely adore one quote that sums up their relationship, from Page 372:
"I fell in love with him. But I don't just stay with him by default as if there's no one else available to me. I stay with him because I choose to, every day that I wake up, every day that we fight or lie to each other or disappoint each other. I choose him over and over again, and he chooses me."
I mean, how beautiful is that, it's like poetry, magic in the written word. My heart is melting.

Now for SPOILERS!!!!!
If you don't want anything given away don't read past here. I will not hold back, you have been warned!!! Skip down to the 'Spoilers over' alert to see my rating.

So, the story is all exciting and powering along, people are leaving, dying, being killed, plans are being formulated on all sides, things are happening and it's all very action packed. But Oh my goodness, I can't believe she did it.
How could she kill her? She started it all, she is the story! I just can't. I finished this book in my lunch break at work today and was literally crying in the staff room. I had to go back to work 5 minutes after reading the last page and I just couldn't function. I literally had one of those moments where my world was shattered but everyone else was carrying on around me and I couldn't understand how they could. I had to stop and catch my breath. I felt broken.
I honestly thought Tris would live. The spoiler I mentioned above that I saw before I read the book was that a main character died, so I was partially prepared, but I thought it would be Christina or maybe even Four, I hoped it wouldn't be Four, but thought it might be. But I never considered that she would get rid of Tris. That took me totally by surprise.
Even up to the point of her final moment I was convinced somehow she would get out of it, survive somehow. But no, she was taken away, struck down and I couldn't believe it. But in some ways that made it all the more beautiful and the story just that bit more powerful. This book really did leave me breathless and hurt and angry and hopeful and sad and happy and totally devastated. It made me feel, it made me care. It completely sucked me in, I was invested and there was no way out.

I thought the ending was beautiful, I loved Tobias' tribute to Tris, it was perfect. Just *sigh*.

It feels like I have said goodbye to a close group of friends but I know I can always go back and visit and they will welcome me back. And I can enjoy the journey with them again.

SPOILERS OVER!!!!

SO overall I have to say that this series is firmly in my 'all time favourites' pile. It will always hold a place in my heart and i will rave about it for years to come. I cannot wait for the films and I know I will re-read them a number of times.
Just beautiful. Veronica Roth - you are one hell of a writer.

This week's question feature is
Bibliotaph’s Reviews

Are there any book to movie adaptations where you think the movie is better than the book?

My Answer: very rarely will I admit to this as it doesn't happen very often, but I have found a couple of cases where I preferred the movie. 'A Little Princess' by Frances Hodgson Burnett is one of my all time favourite films, I tried to read the book and it just didn't hold the same sense of wonder and magic for me.

I'm trying to think of other cases, I know there have been some...

Nope can't think of any right now, I'll update or comment if I remember them.

This week's question feature is
Musings of A Blogder

Vlog Contest! Vlog about why you want to be next weeks feature! If you are too shy to put yourself on camera – tell us why you are sooo shy.

My Answer: I am not vlog shy, I haven't done one for a while but that is purely down to time constraints. As it is, it's currently almost midnight (11:45), I have just logged onto my blog ready to do Follow Friday and still have a million other things to do before I turn in for the night.

What with work, diving club and of course participating in NaNoWriMo I just haven't had time for anything else today. On the plus side, I am on 17,557 words for my NaNo. The target for today was 13,333 so I'm 4,227 words ahead which is great, I've never been that far ahead before. But I won't be writing this weekend at all so had to get ahead really.

Anyone else doing NaNo? If you are, feel free to add me as a writing budding, username is of course Barmy_Bex

Anyway, as I don't have time to record, edit, upload, etc a video -I will just write. Why should I be next week's feature? Well, I'm sure a lot of us deserve it, there are a heck of a lot of good blogs out there and I have made some awesome friends through the blog world. So really, I'm not any more deserving than the rest of you.

But I have never been the feature. I have been blogging for 3 years now and take part in FF every Friday.

The only other thing I can offer is videos of me dancing dressed as children's book characters. These videos are already on my Youtube channel already. The first is 'Maisy Mouse' and the second is 'Hugless Douglas'.

Hope you enjoyed those. :D

That's all I can say really.

Happy Hopping & Blogging. :D

Spellbound Blog Tour

-->

“Author Sherry Soule’s DREAM CAST”
Today bestselling author, Sherry Soule has some exciting news to share with us! All the previously published books in the Spellbound series have been rewritten and republished with more epic romance and suspenseful thrills. The new versions also include exclusive bonus material and brand new scenes. Even additional scenes from the charming bad-boy, Trent Donovan’s point-of-view! To help promote the new editions, she is doing this awesome book tour to share the update with fellow booklovers.

My kickbutt heroine, Shiloh Ravenwolf is a tough one. For me it is between these lovely and brilliant actresses: Chloe Bridges and Rachel Bilson and Malese Jow. (I couldn’t find many Native American actresses in my Google search that would fit my description of Shiloh, who is half-French and half-Sioux.)
Quirky, SHILOH (who never leaves the house without her fav hot pink Doc Martens) has a habit of engaging her brain before her mouth. She has seen shadows for as long as she can remember, and they always turn up when something bad is about to happen. Shiloh was born with an unusual mix of Native American Sioux and French Wiccan ancestry. When Shiloh meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, she realizes he might be next on the supernatural hit list. Shiloh decides it’s her duty to find out what is causing the mystical disappearances in Whispering Pines before the evil claims another innocent life. Yet even as a witch-in-training, is Shiloh worthy to combat the forces of darkness? Or is she just another teen destined to befall the town curse?

For the part of the arrogant, playboy, Trent Donovan, I think these dynamic actors would be great: Christopher Chace Crawford or Alex Pettyfer:
After seventeen years, TRENT and his father return to Whispering Pines and are instantly under speculation. Especially when construction on their mansion awakens an ancient evil, and the vanishing of a local teen has everyone murmuring about an old witch’s curse. When Trent meets Shiloh—sparks fly. Shiloh and Trent have an almost instant connection. As their friendship changes from mutual lust to real affection, they achieve an emotional closeness rarely found. He finds Shiloh’s willful determination a challenge, but he still has a hard time expressing his feelings.  Will Trent be able to survive the Whispering Pine curse in time to tell Shiloh how he feels?

For Shiloh’s mother, Jillian Ravenwolf –Broussard, I like this amazing actress: Kelly Lee Carlson (she would be so freakin’ perfect).
Shiloh’s mother, JILLIAN BROUSSARD is an incredibly beautiful yet cryptic woman. She has never really been the “motherly” type. When she starts dabbling in Dark Magicks, she slips further away from her family. Jillian has been embracing darkness, and straying from the path of Wicca. Will the cost of her driving ambition come at a deadly price?

For Jackson Ravenwolf (Shiloh’s father) this wonderful actor might be great: Oded Fehr.
JACKSON RAVENWOLF is Shiloh’s father, and he only wants peace within his troubled family. He is a kind-hearted man who tends to be swept up in Shiloh’s drama. He does not believe in the supernatural. Not in ghosts or hauntings or mysterious happenings as well as psychic abilities. He thinks the rumors about witches are ridiculous. Still he’s worried that Shiloh will discover his secret. Will he finally find the courage to tell Shiloh the truth about her heritage?

For Shiloh’s sassy best friend, Ariana Parsons, this remarkable actress would be great: Tiffany Thornton.
Smart and feisty, ARIANA PRESTON is Shiloh’s best friend. Her outgoing nature, along with her snarky and blunt personality are Ariana’s most endearing qualities. Upon learning that Shiloh is actually a powerful thirteenth witch, she dedicates herself to aiding her friend in the battle against evil. But after playing around with the occult, Ariana develops a taste for the dark arts. Will her interest in the Craft only cause more havoc and mayhem in a town that is already cursed by dark magick?

For Anthony Evans, Shiloh’s mentor and friend, I like these gifted actors best: Josh Lucas or Patrick Wilson.
ANTHONY EVANS is a Victorian restoration specialist and part-time paranormal investigator that grew up in Castro Valley, California, and gifted with Sight. After the death of his wife, he moves in with his brother-in-law, Maxwell Donovan and his nephew, Trent to help cleanse their haunted house. After hiring Shiloh as an assistant, he decides that it’s his duty to educate Shiloh in all things supernatural. But will teaching her magick be enough to stop the evil from killing the other teenagers in town?

For Shiloh’s brave and loving aunt Lauren, I like these outstanding actresses, Gwyneth Paltrow or Charilze Theron:
LAUREN BROUSSARD wants to help Shiloh deal with her newfound powers. Although, continuous, heated disagreements with her sister, Jillian about Shiloh’s upbringing resulted in her being estranged from the family. But what can Lauren say when Shiloh starts asking questions about the Broussard family’s dark past?

Only one actor comes to mind that could portray the dashing and ruthless, Maxwell Donavon – Australian actor and former fashion model, Julian Dana William McMahon:
Millionaire, yuppie, MAXWELL DONOVAN finally appears in MOONLIGHT MAYHEM. He shares his son Trent’s intensity, articulacy, and conviction. Maxwell was married to Claire and stole not only her heart, but her sanity as well. Rumors abound after he is accused of murdering his wife. Is he really a heartless killer or is there more to this enigmatic man?

For the bratty Trendies, Ashley and Kayla, I like these young, talented actresses: Victoria Justice for Ashley and Amanda Bynes for Kayla:
ASHLEY WITHERIDGE is the mayor’s daughter. She is the Queen Bee at Whispering Pines High. Always calm and poised, and perfectly coiffed. She is Shiloh’s best frenemy. Ashley is very loyal to her friends while still being independent. When an unstoppable beast invades the town, will Ashley put aside her differences to join forces with Shiloh?

KAYLA BISHOP is Ashley’s best friend and captain of the cheerleading squad. At times, she can be spontaneous or cautious—whatever the situation calls for. She’s tougher than she looks, but can a bit of an airhead. Will Kayla surprise herself with her own insightful contributions to the fight against evil?

For the Ramírez family, I like these three talented actors: Michael Trevino as Daniel, Famke Janssen as Regina, and Demián Bichir as Javier.

Okay, so there you have it, Sherry’s fav actor picks. If you’ve read Beautifully Broken or Moonlight Mayhem, what actors would you pick for the leading roles?
Hope you enjoyed this post. Now go feed your mind and read a book! Preferably mine. J

Deadly Witchcraft. Ghostly Threats. Doomed Romance.
They say every town has its secrets, but that doesn’t even begin to describe Fallen Oaks. The townsfolk are a superstitious lot and the mystical disappearance of a local teen has everyone murmuring about a centuries old witch’s curse.
When sixteen-year-old Shiloh Trudell takes a summer job at Craven Manor, she discovers a ghost with an agenda. That’s where she meets the new town hottie, Trent Donovan, and immediately becomes enchanted by his charms.
Finally, Shiloh’s met someone who is supercute and totally into her, but Trent is immersed in the cunning deception that surrounds the mysterious Craven Manor. So much so that he may lose sight of what is truly important to him. And she can’t decide whether she wants to shake him or kiss him. Yet neither one of them can deny the immediate, passionate connection growing between them.
But underlying everything is the fear that Trent may be the next victim on a supernatural hit list, and Shiloh is the only person with the power to save him…
With cryptic messages from a pesky wraith, Shiloh will finally begin to understand the mysterious significance of the strange mark branded on her wrist and decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice to protect the other teenagers in town.
Unfortunately, for Shiloh, not all ghosts want help crossing over. Some want vengeance.
