Midnight Summer Festival (1)

Today marks the official kick off of the Midnight Summer Festival! Hosted by: Rabid Reads, Mission To Read & Deranged Book Lovers.

Midnight Summer Festival is a celebration of all books that cover Mythology, whether Greek, Norse, Egyptian, Roman or any of the many others. There will be 10 days of posts including Book recommendations, interviews and fun facts.

To start we are supposed to state our favourite type of Mythology.

My favourite would have to be Greek, this is probably purely because I have read more from this area than any other, but it fascinates me.
Here is a quick summary of the main points of Greek Mythology: (taken from Wikipedia (c) to them)

Greek mythology is the body of myths and legends belonging to the ancient Greeks concerning their gods and heroes, the nature of the world, and the origins and significance of their own cult and ritual practices. They were a part of religion in ancient Greece.
Greek mythology is embodied explicitly in a large collection of narratives and implicitly in Greek representational arts, such as vase-paintings and votive gifts. Greek myth attempts to explain the origins of the world and details the lives and adventures of a wide variety of gods, goddesses, heroes, heroines, and mythological creatures.

Some of the more well known Greek Gods:

-Zeus - he is God of Sky & Thunder. He rules on Mount Olympus. He is said to be father to Athena, Apollo and Artemis, Hermes, Persephone, Dionysus, Perseus, Heracles, Helen, Minos, and the Muses, Ares, Hebe and Hephaestus. Mostly by different women.

- Poseidon - he is "God of the Sea'

- Hades - God of the Underworld

There are many others but I go into more detail and feature more throughout the week.

We are supposed to pick our favourite book from our Mythology category. Mine would be 'Starcrossed' by Josephine Angelini. I'm not going to talk about it here though as I will be doing a feature on it later in the week so check back for it then.

Come back everyday for more great posts. Have a great Week. :D
