Synopsis
Eighteen year old Caitlin Paine finds herself uprooted from her nice suburb and forced to attend a dangerous New York City high school when her Mom moves again. The one ray of light in her new surroundings is Jonah, a new classmate who takes an instant liking to her. But before their romance can blossom, Caitlin suddenly finds herself changing. She is overcome by a superhuman strength, a sensitivity to light, a desire to feed--by feelings she does not understand. She seeks answers to what's happening to her, and her cravings lead her to the wrong place at the wrong time. Her eyes are opened to a hidden world, right beneath her feet, thriving underground in New York City. She finds herself caught between two dangerous covens, right in the middle of a vampire war.

My Review
I was sent a file version of this book to read by the author in exchange for an honest review.
Caitlin has spent most of her life moving from city to city with her mum and brother. Her brother has always been there for her, the only constant in their ever changing lives. When Caitlin starts a new school she meets Jonah, a sweet sensitive boy in a crowd of thugs and bullies. They start talking and become good friends. Until Caitlin feels herself beginning to change, with extreme strength and speed and a sudden hunger, she's not sure what is happening. Surely vampires can't exist, or can they?
This story is quite short at 129 pages, but is the first of four and I'm looking forward to seeing where the story will head.
This part gives us a taste of some of the characters and establishes the background info, but still keeps us hooked with awesome action scenes, suspense and a little bit of light romance. I really like Jonah and hope he gets the girl, but then again Caleb - a vampire hottie is also a strong contender. I like his air of mystery and his trust in Caitlin.
Caitlin is a great protagonist and you really enter her world, and discover her powers with her. I just know she's going to kick some serious a*s.
The pace flows really well and I read this in one sitting. I also find myself wanting more. I'm glad I've got the next one ready!
It's nice to see a new twist on a Vampire story too, makes you look at it all in a different way. Very well done.

My Rating
I would give this book 9/10, good structure and awesome action, wicked characters and exciting plot, want more!
