NaNoWriMonday (4)

Word Count: 33461/50000
Day: 28/30
Genre: Children's Fantasy

Like many other bloggers, I am participating in this year's National Novel Writing Month, this will be my second time taking part. 'The Bookish Type" is hosting a NaNo meme every Monday to keep up with people's progress.

I honestly can't believe how fast November has flown by, the end of the month is almost here and whereas I'm not as far behind as I was, I've still got a lot of catching up to do. I'm starting to regret those hours of procrastination, those nights of saying "I'm too tired, I'll do it in the morning." But on the up side over the last weekend I have written about 12,000 of those words. I seem to be on a roll and I hope it lasts me until it's over.
I have enjoyed it this year, but not as much as I did last year. It seemed to be a lot harder.
I know where I want my story to go but my characters have ideas of what they want and I keep finding myself going off on a tangent, but they must know what they are doing because these changes end up so much better than what I was going to do.
I've got a couple of hours until I have to go to bed so I'm hoping to do another thousand or more words if I can as soon as I've finished here. I've also got two days off which is perfect for any last catch ups. Although I have got some places I have to go I should have some good writing time.
I actually feel confident that I can finish this for the first time all month. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed and my hopes up.

So how's it going with everyone else?

Oh my goodness, seeing  this in writing has really brought it home as to how far through the month we really are.
I have had a shockingly bad week in terms of writing. I have only done a total of 3,000 words in a whole week, that is shockingly bad!!!
I had a mammoth writing session last weekend and if you read my post last week I was more hopeful, now it feels like I'm drowning.
I knwo everyone makes excuses but I am at work 9-6 everyday then I come home, have about 40 minutes in which I eat my dinner and get changed then I go out again - I do a different sport each night and so am then out from 7-9.30 each day. When I get home I check and update my blog, check in on Facebook by which time it's 10.30 -11 and I'm exhausted. My brain just shuts off. I need to get my brain working so I can do at least a couple of hundreds words a night but it's so hard I just can't  focus.
I started taking my laptop to work so I can write in my lunch break but by the time I've got switched on and got my lunch I have about 45 minutes to write and there are so my distractions and interruptions that I don't get much done.
I am losing hope and motivation with it as I am so far behind I can't see myself catching up. I want to get back into it and complete but I honestly don't know how. Is it even possible to write 30,000 words in a week??? Can I complete.
I feel like my story could be really good if I could only get it on paper. I'm going to try this week and see where I end up by this weekend. Wish me luck.

How are you're word counts doing? Bet they make mine look dreadful.

NaNoWriMonday (2)

Word Count: 14692/50000
Day: 14/30
Genre: Children's Fantasy

Like many other bloggers, I am participating in this year's National Novel Writing Month, this will be my second time taking part. 'The Bookish Type" is hosting a NaNo meme every Monday to keep up with people's progress.

I can't believe we are almost halfway through November. I hoped to be on at least 25,000 words by now. I am seriously behind. As you can probably tell, my plan of an evening in to write last week didn't happen. I had something urgent at work that needed typing so I ended up doing that instead, But I've had the last two days writing like mad, I did about 4,000 words in 2 and a bit hours each night. If I keep on target and use all my time at home writing I should make it.
My problem is that my mind wanders too easily. A game calls my attention, I get a facebook notification, I am reading a good book, i'm hungry, the cat wants something, there's something on TV etc. I need to get myself to focus. When I do the novel is flowing really easily and I am happier with where it is going, but getting into it seems quite hard.

My mind is distracted this year, I never used to be this unfocused, but the more I write the more I seem to come together so I still have hope that I can finish.
I had a vague idea of where I wanted to go with this story when I started it, but I have gone a completely different way several times - and I'm happy with it. My characters are coming to life and telling their own story, they know where they should be and I just have to follow and write it. I told my concept to one of my colleagues today and she seemed really interested which gave me renewed hope.
I've even been taking my laptop to work so I can have 45 minutes of writing at lunch time, but with the distractions I don't get much done, I did 300 words today, but that's better than nothing. I'll do some more when I've finished here, see if I can do at least 2,000 words today.

Overall I am more confident with where I am going, I just need to get on with it. I hope I can catch up. Wish me luck.

NaNoWriMonday (1)

Word Count: 2141/50000 (shockingly bad, but read below to find out why)
Day: 7/30
Genre: Children's Fantasy

Like many other bloggers, I am participating in this year's National Novel Writing Month, this will be my second time taking part. 'The Bookish Type" is hosting a NaNo meme every Monday to keep up with people's progress.

When i took part last year, I hit 50,000 words quite easily. My blog had only just started so I wasn't on it as much, I didn't have a mass pile of review books to read and things in everyday life were just easier. A lot has changed over the past year. I am so happy with how big my blog has become and how many wonderful authors take the time to contact me, I wouldn't change that for the world. But I feel guilty for neglecting things while I write. So I'm still juggling reading and writing.
The biggest changes have been outside of the blogging world, my parents have both been made redundant and my job is now at risk meaning there is a whole lot more stress.
I work most days 9-6 and then do a sporting activity of some sort from 7-9.30, meaning most days I don't get my computer on until 9.45 at night. I then check and update my blog, facebook etc. The settle down to write at about 10.45. This gives me about an hour before I collapse from exhaustion.

Before November started I had a page filled with different story ideas and I thought I had picked my favourite, but on November 1st I sat down and was totally uninspired. I had a day off so thought I could steam ahead, but nothing came out. I then decided to change story ideas and that seemed to work. I wrote 2,000 words on the first and second day giving me a total of 4,058. But I struggled, I wasn't feeling confident, I didn't care about my character and I dreaded sitting down to write.
I continued to struggle for the next three days but didn't really add any words at all. So on the 5th November I decided to start again with a whole different story, one I had been thinking about for a while, and it seemed to work, I was so jazzed up and excited I wrote a massive 2,061 words in an hour. I was jetting through!

Since then I wrote nothing yesterday as we were tidying the house ready for an estate agent visit today, I could have written some last night but I could hardly keep my eyes open.
Today I took my laptop to work with me so I could write in my lunch break, but I happened to get put on lunch at the same time as three other people and we got chatting. I deleted 400 words but did manage to re-write 500, so I added 100 to my count.

I  got home about 45 minutes ago  from training at JuJitsu (it's 10.15 now), when I've finished this post I will load up my document and do an hour of typing, hopefully I can get 2,000 words out, but this will still mean I am miles behind. I'll do more if I can, but it will be close.
I have a night in tomorrow as trampolining club has been cancelled so I've got to sit down and use the extra time to just write, write, write. I'm hoping to get about 6,000 words done tomorrow, which will catch me up a bit.

Wish me luck, I'm hoping by this time next week I have caught up and have more positive news. Maybe even be ahead of target. Wish me luck.
